EEL

Habits, Habitat and general info: Eels can live in the saltwater Gulf, brackish coastal marshes or freshwater rivers and streams. Eels feed on small fish and shrimp. If you are lucky enough to catch a live one (Be careful of its sharp teeth and strong jaws). Most convenience stores and bait shops at the coast sell them frozen. When you first catch an Eel you might think it is a snake because of the way it slithers and moves about. Don't bother trying to remove the hook from the Eels mouth unless you first cut off its head.   Using Eels as bait

Fresh bait is always the best bait! But frozen works well too! Simply slice the Eel crossways making two inch chunks to run your hook through. Eels have very tough skin so it will be hard to get the hook through the bait and it will be hard to get your hook off the bait too. I've caught as many as 20, five to six pound Gafftop Catfish on one piece of eel, But remember that although Eel is a great bait for Gafftop, It will catch a lot of Hardheads too!
